Police Arrest, Charge Man In Armed Robbery Of Montgomery County Pet Store
JENKINTOWN, Pa. (CBS) -- Police have arrested and charged a man in the armed robbery of pet store in Abington Township, Montgomery County.
It happened around 8:15 p.m. Friday night at the Pet Valu Store in the 1600 block of The Fairway in Jenkintown.
Police say a man wearing a mask and armed with a handgun entered the store and demanded an employee give him the money from the cash register.
After being handed an undisclosed amount of cash, authorities say the gunman, later identified as Robert Ameen Young, Jr., fled the store and drove away in a green Cadillac.
Police say a responding officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot but Young sped away. After a brief chase, police say he jumped out of the car and started fleeing on foot. The officer chased Young down and took him into custody without further incident.
The officer was not injured.
There were no customers inside of the store at the time of the robbery.
A search of Young's vehicle turned up a loaded handgun and the stolen money.
Young was charged with robbery, carrying a firearm without a license, theft, fleeing and eluding police, terroristic threats and various other related offenses.
