Police: Father, Son Arrested Following Gunfire Exchange In Collingdale

COLLINGDALE, Pa. (CBS) -- An attempt to serve a warrant on a shooting suspect in Collingdale, Delaware County turned violent Wednesday morning when police were met with a hail of gunfire.

25-year-old LeMar James and his father, 41-year-old Tony Gale, are both facing charges after police say Gale blocked the entrance to their home and James opened fire through the front door.

Nine officers, including SWAT were at Gale's Lafayette Avenue home to search it as James is a suspect in an October 27 shooting in Philadelphia.

LeMar James, he's being charged with nine separate counts of attempted murder on these officers," said Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan, "and nine separate counts of aggravated assault on a police officer."

Gale is charged with obstruction of justice.

As for the officers, two were hit but were not seriously injured. The bulletproof helmet one officer was wearing was hit. Another officer was struck in the hand.

James' mother was also in the house and taken into custody.

She has not been charged.
