71-Year-Old Man Tied Up In Southwest Philadelphia Home Invasion Robbery
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The search is underway Wednesday night for suspects who terrorized an older man during a home invasion robbery in Southwest Philadelphia.
Two of the three suspects were wearing masks as they walked in through an unlocked back door and then tied up a 71-year-old man.
Police believe the three suspects may have been looking for money or guns. They targeted this home on the 6700 block of Trinity Street where an elderly couple lives. The 71–year-old man was home alone.
"Two males are going through the house. One is dealing with him. Zip ties him. At one point the guy does tell him if you move or do something I'll kill you. They never display a weapon at any point. And he's unharmed at this point from what we can tell," Lt. John Walker of Philadelphia Police said.
The couple has a son in the Army who is currently deployed, but was home over Thanksgiving. That's why police are considering the thieves may have targeted the home believing there were guns inside. But the only items stolen were a cell phone and some coins.
The suspects entered the home just before 6 p.m. and left a few minutes later, just before the 71-year-old's wife returned home from grocery shopping.
The 71-year-old man was not injured.
Police describe the suspects as Black males possibly in their 20's.
