Police: 30-Year-Old Woman Picked Up 50lbs Of Pot From UPS Store
NEWARK, Del. (CBS) – Police say a woman was arrested during a traffic stop after she picked up 50 pounds of marijuana from an United Parcel Services store.
Police say the New Castle County Drug Control Squad was alerted about a delivery to UPS on Monday.
According to police, Dana Bates was seen signing for the delivery, and loading the packages into her Volkswagen Beetle which she drove while having a suspended license.
Authorities report that she was pulled over moments after leaving the store and asked to exit the vehicle so a K-9 officer and his partner could conduct a "sniff" of her vehicle.
After the canine provided a positive indication of a controlled substance, a search warrant was executed and five tubular shaped cardboard packages containing 50.2 pounds of marijuana were seized, says police.
Bates was taken into custody without incident and charged with driving while suspended or revoked and possession of a controlled dangerous substance.
