Police: 27 Shots Fired During Deadly North Philadelphia Shooting
By Jenn Bernstein
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A hail of gunfire erupted on a North Philadelphia Street late Monday night, killing one man, according to police.
Just before 11 p.m., police received multiple calls reporting gunfire, and a person hurt.
When they arrived, they found a man, who appeared to be in his 20's, shot in the chest.
Officers rushed him to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name has not yet been released.
"We found at least 27 fired cartridge cases, so we know at least 27 shots were fired by two different caliber weapons," said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
In the search for those weapons, K-9 dogs were brought in to help police.
"We received some information that the shooter or shooters may have dumped their weapons in a vacant lot near the 800 block of Perkiomen. So we brought down K-9 dogs that can sniff out ballistics," said Small.
Police will be reviewing one private surveillance camera found in the area.
They will also search for witnesses.
