Police: 15-Year-Old Girl Found Unconscious In Northeast Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police say a 15-year-old girl was found unconscious in a wooded area off Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia.
Police say the girl was found around 7:45 p.m. Monday on the 7600 block of Roosevelt Boulevard.
Police searched the woods of Pennypack Park after the girl was found unconscious wearing her school uniform. She was found on the northbound side of the boulevard by a passerby walking just north of Cottman Avenue.
Police say the girl's parents had reported her missing 45 minutes earlier when she didn't return home from school.
According to police, the girl had visible bruises on the back of her legs and a head wound.
She is at the hospital in stable condition, being interviewed by police.
"We don't know if the bruises to her head or legs, how they were caused. If she was assaulted by a person, or she fell, we don't know. But we did find her in an unusual location, on the other side of the guardrail laying in the woods, just feet from the sidewalk," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
So far, police say they have not found any visible evidence at the scene.
Police initially reported she was 12-year-old, but have corrected her age to 15.
Philadelphia Police's Special Victims Unit and Northeast Detectives are investigating.
