Police: 12-Year-Old Arrested In Wilmington Shooting
WILMINGTON, Del., (CBS) – Wilmington police say a 12-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with the shooting of a 17-year-old boy.
The incident happened around 10 p.m. on Friday, September 20th at the 600 block of N. Van Buren Street.
According to police, the 17-year-old victim was walking when he was approached by the 12-year-old. Police say the 12-year-old allegedly demanded the victim's cell phone and began to struggle with the victim. The child then allegedly shot the victim in the leg with a handgun, took the cell phone, and fled, according to police.
Through their investigation, detectives identified the 12-year-old and issued a warrant for his arrest.
The child was arrested on Wednesday night and charged with Robbery 1st Degree, Assault 1st Degree, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony.
Police say the 12-year-old, who is on probation for robbery, was arraigned and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $150,000 cash bail.
