Police: $10K Reward Offered In Shooting That Injured Child In West Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police say a $10,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction in a shooting that left a young girl injured in West Philadelphia.
At about 9:06 p.m. Saturday, police say officers responded to the 5400 block of Haverford Avenue.
Upon their arrival, police say officers were met by the girl's parents who were standing next to their car with a shattered driver's rear window.
According to police, the father stated that he slowed down, put his flashers on and then stopped. Police say the father heard a pop and the rear window of the vehicle shattered, and their three young daughters that were in the back seat began to scream and cry.
Police believe the stop at a normally congested area may have triggered the gunfire.
Police say the girl placed her hands on her head and said she was hurt. Police say she was taken to the hospital.
According to police, at first it was thought to be a laceration due to the breaking glass, however, upon further examination, doctors found a bullet lodged in her skull.
Police say the girl underwent surgery Wednesday to have the bullet removed.
Police say the City of Philadelphia is offering a $5,000 reward and the FOP Lodge 5 is also offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for this crime.
