Police: 1 Dead In Hockessin, Del. Crash
HOCKESSIN, Del., (CBS) -- Delaware State Police say one person was killed in an accident involving a pickup truck and a tractor trailer in Hockessin.
The crash happened just before 1 p.m. Thursday in the 7000 block of Lancaster Pike.
According to investigators, a 2011 Dodge R15 pickup truck was traveling southbound on DE Rt. 41 (Lancaster Pike) south of School House Lane, at an apparent high rate of speed. For an unknown reason, police say the pickup truck crossed into the northbound lane of Lancaster Pike, where it struck the rear of a 2001 Mack tractor and trailer which was traveling northbound on Rt. 41. Investigators say the pickup truck came to rest in the roadway. The tractor trailer continued traveling in a northbound direction where it struck two road signs and a utility pole before coming to rest.
Police say the 26-year-old pickup truck driver, of Ridley Park, Pa., was not properly restrained at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 60-year-old driver of the tractor trailer, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured.
Lancaster Pike was closed for about four hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit. Police say charges are not expected to be filed.
