Plans For A New Facility For A Chester Charter School

(CHESTER, PA) -- There are grand plans in the works for a Chester charter school to relocate into a 25 million dollar, state of the art facility on the edge of town by the fall of next year.

The Chester Charter School for the Arts is more of a general school with an artful component, and not a place focusing specifically on acting and such. There are 500 k through 9th grade students now, with plans for 650 kids k through 12 by 2018.

Don Delson, chairman of the board of Trustees, tells KYW Newsradio "The school will have a band room. It will have a cafetorium for performances. It'll have two dance studios as well as advanced laboratories for high school students. All of the physical attributes that a wealthy, suburban high school and k to 12 center would have."

The school now operates out of rented space in Aston and needs more room. Keren White directs the financial efforts for the school under a separate organization known as The Chester Fund for Education and the Arts. "We have such belief in the community," White said. "We have such close ties to the community and we just believe this is a facility that the children of Chester deserve and it's a development that will do the whole city good."

They're taking out bonds and undertaking a 7 million dollar capital fundraising effort to pay for the project.
