UPDATE: Plane That Made Emergency Landing At PHL Cleared To Continue On To Final Destination
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A plane en-route from Ireland made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport Wednesday afternoon after receiving a threat.
According to reports, US Airways flight 777 landed in Philadelphia at about 2 p.m. after a threat was reportedly phoned in to the airport. The exact nature of the threat was not immediately released.
Once the plane landed, all passengers, as well as their baggage, were removed from the plane and re-screened. The plane was isolated as well.
At about 3 p.m., the search of the plane ended and authorities said nothing suspicious was found aboard the plane. The plane contained 171 passengers and eight crew members.
After the all-clear was given, the plane was brought back to the airport area, as well as the passenger's luggage.
There were no reports of any injuries.
The plane was coming from Shannon, Ireland. The flight was originally scheduled to land in Philadelphia and then travel onto Pittsburgh.
The FBI, as well as Philadelphia Police and Homeland Security, were involved in the investigation.
A US Airways spokesperson released the following statement:
"US Airways flight 777 from Shannon, Ireland to Philadelphia landed safely and without incident in Philadelphia at approximately 2PM. We were aware of a possible security issue with the flight and out of an abundance of caution taxied the aircraft to a remote location, where it was met by law enforcement and emergency personnel. 171 passengers and 8 crew members have been deplaned from the Boeing 757 aircraft at the remote location safely using stairs and are being taken to the terminal by bus."
The phone threat remains under investigation.
