Pit Bull Fatally Shot By Officers After Attack
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police were forced to shoot and kill a Pit bull after it apparently attacked a woman Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened at about 1 p.m. in the 3100 block of Morse Street in the city's Strawberry Mansion section.
According to neighbors, a woman was pushing a shopping cart down the street when the Pit bull came out of a nearby alley and bit her in the leg.
The woman was able to seek shelter inside a neighbor's home as the dog remained outside.
The neighbor called police and when the first officer arrived, the dog lunged at the officer and he fired at the dog.
The dog was able to escape and apparently then lunged at a second officer who fatally shot the dog.
The victim was taken to Temple University Hospital for treatment, but she is expected to be OK.
