Pileggi Mulling US Senate Bid
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) - The Republican leader of the Pennsylvania Senate says he's considering a run for the United State Senate.
Republican Dominic Pileggi, whose district includes parts of Delaware and Chester Counties, says he's made no decision about running for the US Senate, but will "continue to listen" to those who've approached him about it.
Franklin and Marshall College professor and political analyst Terry Madonna says if he decides to run, Pileggi – with his high profile as state Senate majority leader -- will be a formidable candidate in crowded primary field. But Madonna says a Pileggi candidacy for US Senate would almost certainly shake things up in Harrisburg.
"It would be very difficult to run for the United States Senate, and retain your leadership position – certainly, to be effective as a leader."
Meanwhile, suburban Philadelphia state Senator John Rafferty has scheduled an event for later today at which time he's to announce his candidacy for the GOP nomination for state attorney general.
