Piece Of Camden Waterfront Cleared For Sale

CAMDEN, NJ (CBS) -- The way has been cleared for sale of a prime piece of real estate along the Camden, New Jersey waterfront.
Governor Chris Christie has signed legislation that puts the state's Economic Development Agency in charge of selling 10 acres just north of the Ben Franklin Bridge, where the Riverfront State Prison sat until it was demolished more than three years ago.
State Senator Donald Norcross, who pushed the plan, says there's a lot of developer interest in the property.
"You're looking at millions of dollars, potentially, for this land. We've received many calls and now the uncertainty is gone and those interested in the site will have a chance to bid on this very valuable piece of ground."
Norcross says there shouldn't be a lot of trouble finding a buyer.
"It can't come quick enough certainly for the city of Camden and for our region. It's not often you open up this many acres to development and I think it will draw a good price."
Money will remain with the EDA to be used for projects within Camden.
