PHL Passengers Forced Off Plane For Galaxy Note 7 Scare
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Passengers were forced off of a plane at Philadelphia International Airport this morning over fears that a banned Samsung phone had been carried on board.
A spokeswoman for American Airlines says 'Galaxy Note 7' appeared on a list of WiFi networks on the Philly-to-Miami flight. The captain asked for the passengers to be re-screened as a precaution. We're told the search turned up nothing.
Last month, the FAA banned the Galaxy Note 7 from all flights after Samsung admitted faulty batteries in the phones were prone to burst into flames.
In this case, it appears to have been an inappropriately named WiFi network that caused the scare.
Passengers were allowed to reboard around 1 p.m. -- about three hours after the flight was supposed to depart PHL.
