Philly's NCAA Basketball Coaches Help Raise Big Bucks In Fight Against Cancer
By Tim Jimenez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Villanova, Temple and St. Joe's will be representing Philadelphia in the NCAA tournament, but before the coaches draw up their Xs and Os, their playbook focused on the fight against cancer.
The brackets and buzzer beaters of March Madness, parked on the bench while raising money for cancer research was the focus on the floor.
For yet another year, hundreds took to the historic hardwood of The Palestra for the annual Coaches vs. Cancer Tourney Tip-Off Breakfast.
And in attendance, Philly's tournament bound coaches like Temple's Fran Dunphy.
"Kinda smacks you right in the face and the reality of life is more important than what we do on the basketball court."
Villanova's Jay Wright says, "What's important is our community here in Philadelphia and helping to fight cancer and it's much bigger than basketball."
St. Joe's Phil Martelli explains what the ultimate win would look like.
"Have no one get that diagnosis and have no family have to deal with the devastation of cancer."
