Philly's Men Are Cooking Fundraiser Held At Convention Center
Philadelphia (CBS) – The Ivy Legacy Foundation held its 20th year celebration and fundraiser at the Pennsylvania Convention Center Saturday Night.
More than 140 chefs - all men - participated in this year's Philly's Men Are Cooking. The event is an annual fundraiser that features delectable, culinary creations from volunteer chefs.
Attorney Scott Reid brought a group of more than a dozen amateur chefs to participate in the tasty extravaganza.
"We have a New Orleans theme, so you got beads going, you got jambalaya, gumbo, po boys, you got mint julep. We got it all! It's like the taste of New Orleans."
Hundreds of ladies attended the event, enjoying both the food and the men in aprons!
"There's a man here that made some Caribbean chicken wings that are divine- I mean, he might be my husband, but they are divine," says Candace Richardson.
Kimberly Houston is a regular and always knows what she wants.
"The fish from Eric the fish man; he comes here every year and sells out."
"There is a mango-pineapple colada- excellent," says another attendee.
Sharmon James is one of the Event Co-Chairs. She says all of proceeds generated from the event go to help high schoolers looking to go to college. "We have given away about $250,000 in scholarships."
So why have the men do all the cooking?
"Because women love men and men love catering to women and that's what this night is all about," says James.
The Ivy Legacy Foundation is the non-profit charitable arm of the Rho Theta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
