Philly Traffic Judge Removed Over YouTube Remark
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Philadelphia traffic judge who made remarks in a YouTube video suggesting campaign donors would find a "hook-up" in his court has been relieved of his duties.
The state Supreme Court issued the order Thursday in the matter of 30-year-old Judge Willie Singletary.
Singletary's remarks at an April 2007 biker rally were captured on video and posted to YouTube. The video shows Singletary seeking campaign donations despite rules that prohibit magisterial district judge candidates from such solicitations. On the video, he asked bikers for campaign contributions and told them they'd need his "hook-up" in traffic court.
Singletary's attorney, William J. Brennan, says his client respects the authority of the Supreme Court. Brennan says they are reviewing the order and assessing their options.
