Philly Soccer Show: US Women Triumphant
By Greg Orlandini
CHESTER, Pa. (CBS) -- History has been made by the US Women's National Team as they defeat Japan to bring home the World Cup for the third time!
First, KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined by women's soccer expert Jami Dansingburg. Jami holds an advanced diploma from the NSCAA and is co-founder of Global Soccer Metrix.
The ladies vanquished Japan, 5-2, powered by a hat trick in the first 16 minutes from Delran, NJ native Carli Lloyd. We discuss some of the individual performances, especially from defenders Julie Johnston and Pittsburgh-native Meghan Klingenberg, who both stood out throughout the tournament.
We then shift back to the Philadelphia Union, who return to league play this Saturday as they host the Portland Timbers at PPL Park.
The Union defeated DC United in the US Open Cup last Tuesday, 2-1, in come-from-behind fashion in Chester.
Some more good news for the team as they confirm the loan of forward Fernando Aristeguieta has been extended, keeping the Venezuelan with the team for the rest of the season.
