Philly Soccer Show: US Open Cup Fever
By Greg Orlandini
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- This is the US Open Cup Final edition of the KYW Philly Soccer Show!
KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch preview Tuesday's clash between the Philadelphia Union and the Seattle Sounders as the Union go for their first-ever trophy.
First we speak with Union interim manager Jim Curtin, and then we discuss the history of the Open Cup with Philly Soccer Page editor Ed Farnsworth.
-----
Curtin, who won the cup twice as a player with the Chicago Fire, talks about how important it will be for the Union to win the trophy.
They face a tough test in the Seattle Sounders, who took home the cup in 2009, 2010, and 2011. (Union top scorer Sébastien Le Toux was on the '09 Sounders team and is also the top scorer in the modern era of the competition.)
-----
We then talk with Ed Farnsworth. Ed has an exhaustive knowledge of soccer's history in the Delaware Valley and discusses some of the Philadelphia-area teams of the past that found success in the cup.
