Philly Soccer Show: Super Sub Antoine Hoppenot
By Greg Orlandini
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) –- He's the guy that comes off the bench when the Philadelphia Union needs a spark, and he is the guest this week on the KYW Philly Soccer Show.
Forward Antoine Hoppenot joins KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch, talking about his role with the team and the possibility of earning a start in the near future.
The Princeton product says he is comfortable being one of the first guys off the bench for the team.
The Union has a tough stretch coming up, with three matches over the next week. We talk about the possibility of the team rotating some of the players to deal with the rapid succession of games.
One player who could make his season debut in place of the injured Jeff Parke is defender Bakary Soumaré. He had earlier asked for a trade due to lack of playing time.
We then wrap up with the biggest news in the soccer world: Sir Alex Ferguson is stepping down as manager of Manchester United. He leaves with 13 league championships, five FA Cups, and two UEFA Champions League titles, making him one of the most sucessful British managers in history.
Reports say fellow Scot and current Everton manager David Moyes will take over one of the most prestigious jobs in the game.
