Philly Soccer Show: Steven Vitoria, and the Sorry State of MLS Officiating
By Greg Orlandini
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- He's a Canadian player with Portuguese heritage, and he is the guest on this week's Philly Soccer Show!
KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch are joined today by defender Steven Vitoria. The Toronto-born center back came over from the Benfica, in Portugal, to help bolster the Union's defense. He talks about adjusting to MLS and the possibility of playing for the Canadian National Team.
Then, we talk with Peter Andrews, columnist for the Philly Soccer Page.
The Union scored three goals on the road against Real Salt Lake, which should have been enough for a victory. But a late and dubious penalty called against Maurice Edu on RSL's Luke Mulholland ended the game in a 3-3 draw.
We discuss the state of refereeing in Major League Soccer, now that the officials have played a major role in both of the Union's games so far this season.
We also look ahead to FC Dallas, Philly's tough opponent, whom they face here at PPL Park on Friday.
