Philly Soccer Show: New Keeper For Union, Lunging Toward Playoffs?
By Greg Orlandini
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (CBS) -- The winds of change could be swirling around the Philadelphia Union once again, and the KYW Philly Soccer Show tries to make sense of it all.
First, KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch talk with Union defender Sheanon Williams. The right back, who has played every defensive position this season, talks about this Friday's tough match at Sporting Kansas City. The team has struggled this year but are still in position to make the playoffs.
Then, Greg and Eli talk about the team's big announcement set for noon today (Wednesday). Published reports have said the Union are set to sign goalkeeper Raïs M'Bolhi.
The Algerian keeper, who currently plays for CSKA Sofia, in Bulgaria, backstopped his team to its first round of 16 appearance in this year's World Cup. He posted eleven saves in a 2-1 loss to eventual world champ Germany.
With this possible signing of M'Bolhi, the Union could look to move one of their current goalkeepers, starter Zac MacMath or rookie Andre Blake.
