Philly Soccer Show: MLS Super Draft Nets Union 2 Players
By Greg Orlandini
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The MLS Super Draft returned to the Pennsylvania Convention Center and the KYW Philly Soccer Show recaps it all for you. KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch were at the draft, and break down the Union's picks.
The team was without a first round pick, trading the 10th pick to Sporting KC for forward CJ Sapong earlier in the offseason, and didn't pick until the middle of the second round.
But with the 31st pick they took Dzenan Catic, a 6'3' Bosnian born, USA raised forward. He went to try his luck in Germany at Kaiserslautern after high school and returned to the US to attend Davenport University in Michigan where he had two record-setting seasons. He scored 63 goals over his two years at the school.
Later in the round, the Union took midfielder Eric Bird, who won an NCAA title with University of Virginia last year.
