Philly Soccer Show: Meeting The Union's Newest Midfielder
By Greg Orlandini
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- He's one of the newest members of the Philadelphia Union and he's the guest this week on the KYW Philly Soccer Show. Midfielder Tranquillo Barnetta talks with KYW's Greg Orlandini and Philly Soccer Page writer Eli Pearlman-Storch.
He comes to the team with quite the resume, with a long career in Germany and 75 appearances for Switzerland including 3 trips to World Cups.
The Swiss international talks about his journey from the German Bundesliga to MLS and the Union. Barnetta also talks about the difficulty coming into a team in the middle of their season, while he hasn't played since the German season ended in May.
Greg and Eli then talk about this evening's US Open Cup semifinal at PPL Park against Chicago Fire. If the Union win, they will reach the Cup final for the second straight year (they lost to the Seattle Sounders at home 3-1 after extra time the last time around).
