Philly Soccer Blog: Rookie Fabian Herbers Discusses His Journey To Philadelphia Union
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- His debut MLS goal was a spectacular one, and he is the guest this week on the KYW Philly Soccer Show.
KYW's Greg Orlandini and CBS-3's Kevin Kinkead talk with Philadelphia Union rookie Fabian Herbers. The German-born forward was drafted 6th overall in this year's MLS Super Draft and has played mainly as a sub. He scored his first goal against Columbus in Chester on a wonderful, curling shot that turned into the game-winner in the team's 3-2 victory on June 1.
Herbers talks about the journey that took from life in the German countryside to Creighton University and eventually to MLS and the Philadelphia Union. He also talks about facing off tonight against the City Islanders at home in the Union's first game in the US Open Cup.
Then, Kevin and Greg talk U.S. National team. After a rocky start to their Copa America campaign against Colombia, the U.S. defeated both Costa Rica and Paraguay to advance out there group.
They face Ecuador on Thursday in the quarterfinals.
