Philly Rapper Arrested On Probation Violation
PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Philadelphia police say a local rap artist was arrested over the weekend in New Jersey on a probation violation but is not wanted for any other offense in the city.
Police said Monday that 28-year-old Cassidy, whose real name is Barry Reese, was taken into custody Saturday by Hackensack police on a probation violation in connection with a previous aggravated assault case in Philadelphia.
Police said the probation violation was "for non-reporting only" and the rapper "is not wanted for any other crime/violation in Philadelphia."
Reese is being held in Bergen County Prison awaiting extradition to Philadelphia.
Cassidy served time in prison after he was convicted in 2006 of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.
Defense attorney Fortunato Perri told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the violation was "technical."
