Philly HS Students Planting Trees In Center City
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A group of high school students took part in an outdoor lesson yesterday on the importance of planting trees in Philadelphia's historic district.
Rocco Scalzo, 16, of Abraham Lincoln high school in the Mayfair section was among those helping to plant one of two hackberry trees in the historic district. He's a member of the school environmental club.
"For me, I'm kind of hoping that Philadelphia takes a message saying, 'you gotta start helping the earth. Making it greener, brighter.' Make Philadelphia cleaner -- the city of brotherly love."
Dow Chemical is one of the sponsors to contribute to the Center City District's "Plant Philadelphia" program, which aims to enhance the city's streetscape by planting and maintaining trees.
