Philly Film Office Celebrates 25th Anniversary
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Greater Philadelphia Film Office celebrates a quarter of a century this weekend:
"The 25th anniversary of the Philadelphia Film Office. Very exciting!"
That's film office executive director Sharon Pinkenson:
"Oh in the beginning it was rotary phones and no computers and no internet. Nobody wanted to come to Philadelphia to film anything."
Eventually though, Pinkenson helped lure in the film crews:
"The very first film was 'The Age of Innocence.' That was a biggie -- Martin Scorcese. We turned Broad Street, closed our main drag, and we laid down dirt and snow!"
She says over 300 major films have been shot here and the film office has been very hands on:
"You can't hire a police officer for film or close the street or special trash pick up or parking space or any city services unless you go through the film office."
