Philly DA Office Investigating Reports Of 'Voting Irregularities' At The Polls
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office is investigating reports of several "voting irregularities" at the polls.
D.A. Seth Williams addressed concerns of voter intimidation and election fraud at a press conference held earlier today.
He said his team had been sent out to a polling location in Wynnefield Heights after a Republican Poll Watcher claimed she witnessed one of the poll workers illegally helping a voter cast a ballot.
At this time officials say there have been no confirmed cases of voter fraud.
"We have no founded complaints of intimidation. No founded complaints of voter fraud. We have no walking apocalypse zombies walking all over town. We don't have that and I'm very thankful. But again we are here to ensure that every Philadelphian that wants to vote can do so unencumbered, unimpeded, without threat or harassment by anyone.
As of 4:45 p.m. more than 85 election complaints had been called in, 34 of which the District Attorney's office is investigating. Thirteen of those complaints involved complaints of electioneering -- campaigning within the polling area which is not allowed within 10 feet of the polling entrance. There have been 10 complaints for machine issues or malfunctions and 15 calls for voter assistance problems. The rest of the complaints have been called in for various issues.
Williams says voters who believe they have been the victim of voter fruad, intimidation or see it happening can call a hotline set up by the D.A.'s office at 215-686-9641.
