Philly Consumer Group Warns Of Dangerous Holiday Toys

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the annual warning is out to be on the lookout for unsafe toys.

Toys are getting safer and the federal government is doing a better job cracking down on companies using unsafe paints, chemicals, or small parts that can pose choking hazards, according Megan DeSmedt (right), director of the Pennsylvania Public Interest Research Group ("PennPIRG").

But she  says you still must pay close attention.  And now, PennPirg is promoting its new, interactive web site that is optimized for mobile users out shopping for toys.

"You can access this from your smart phone or your home computer," said DeSmedt at a Tuesday press conference.  "There are tools and tips for shoppers, so when you're out there you can keep this information right at your fingertips while you're in the store."

Plus, she added, there is a place on the web site where you can report unsafe toys you see on store shelves.

That web address is toysafety.mobi.
