Philly Car Share Boosting Fleet With Electric Cars
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - PhillyCarShare is getting ready to roll out a fleet of electric cars and charging stations this summer.
Philly Car Share was among the first organizations in the city to make a heavy commitment to hybrid vehicles and now it's taking the next step.
Executive Director Jerry Fergione says they've ordered a fleet of Chevy Volts.
"We have 18 of these on order for the middle of July and about 20 chargers are going to be installed throughout the city of Philadelphia."
The charging stations will be located at Penn, Drexel, Temple, the Horticultural Society and various parking garages and lots throughout Center City, thereby planting the seeds of an electric vehicle infrastructure.
"We got a grant from the Pennsylvania EPA of $140,000 to install 20 stations."
Car Share members will pay 3-4 dollars an hour to tool around in the electric cars.
