Phillies Ticket Prices Among Most Expensive In Majors
By Paul Kurtz
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Attendance is down again this season at Citizens Bank Park and the cost to get in may have something to do with it. Phillies tickets are among the most expensive in Major League Baseball.
According to a recent survey in the online publication "The Street," the average Phillies ticket costs $37.42. Only the Cubs,Yankees and Red Sox charge more.
Three years ago, nobody would've blinked. Citizens Bank Park was the destination of choice for people clamoring to watch the "Four Aces" and a championship caliber team do their thing.
But fans tell KYW Newsradio times have changed:
"Cost-wise it would have to be a lot cheaper for me to watch something that I'm not totally bought into how they're doing things."
"If you're gonna jack it when they win, aren't you gonna give the public a break when you're not going to the playoffs, which has been a couple of years."
"I guess when you get people to sell out constantly you just figure, hey it doesn't matter what we do on the field people are gonna come watch us, and I think eventually, at least for me, it's at that point and maybe it's gonna get that way for a lot of people, eventually."
"When you're comparing it to the run that they had, you don't have the same product."
To be fair, the Phillies held off on raising prices during the off-season. Unlike Boston, which celebrated its World Series victory by jacking up ticket prices by nearly five-percent. Red Sox fans now pay an average of $52.32 to get through the gate.
