Phillies Start Ten-Game Trip Monday Night In San Diego
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – After an ugly weekend at Citizens Bank park that saw them lose two out of three (and blow a six-run lead in the game they did win) to the Mets, the Phillies are now on the road for a ten-game road trip that begins Monday night in San Diego.
The Phillies are 36-40 on the season and in third place in National League East. They come into this series opener 7 1/2 games behind first place Atlanta.
Cliff Lee will get the start in the series opener for The Phillies. The left-hander is putting together an outstanding season. He is 9-2 this season with a 2.53 ERA and last time out he beat Washington with eight strong innings of work. Lee has won seven straight decisions. Now he hasn't pitched against the Padres since 2011 and in five career starts versus San Diego, he is 1-2 with a 4.99 ERA.
Lee's mound opponent will be left-hander Eric Stults. He is 6-5 this season with a 3.25 ERA.
This is the first meeting of the season between these two teams. They will meet again in Philadelphia for a three-game series in September.
