Phillies Sign RHP Chad Qualls to One-Year Deal
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Ruben Amaro Jr. is keeping busy this offseason. The Phillies' general manager today announced that the team has signed veteran righthanded reliever Chad Qualls to a one-year deal worth $1.15 million.
Qualls has been around, breaking into the bigs in 2004. He has pitched with the Astros, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the San Diego Padres.
Last season was his only one in San Diego, and he pitched in 77 games, going 6-8 with a 3.51 ERA.
Qualls has proven durable in his career. Since 2005, in fact, no Major League pitcher has thrown in more games (512) than Chad Qualls.
KYW's Matt Leon talks with baseball insider Seth Everett about the Qualls deal and how it affects the Phillies' bullpen for the 2012 season...
