Phillies Sign Carlos Zambrano
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies have signed pitcher Carlos Zambrano to a minor-league deal, the team announced today. Zambrano will report to Clearwater, Florida for extended Spring Training later this week.
The right handed Zambrano, 31 years old, has a lifetime record of 132-91 with an ERA of 3.66 in 12 seasons with the Cubs and Marlins. He was 7-10 in 2012 with the Marlins, with an ERA of 4.49, striking out 95 and walking 75 batters in 132 innings.
Zambrano is a very good hitter for a pitcher, with a lifetime batting average of .248, with 24 home runs.
The Phillies are missing two of the five starters in their opening day rotation, as John Lannan continues to recover from a knee injury, and Roy Halladay is likely out for at least 2-3 months following shoulder surgery.
