Phillies Release Bobby Abreu
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A day after the Phillies announced Bobby Abreu would not make the roster, they gave him his unconditional release to pursue other options around Major League Baseball.
The 40-year old Abreu, who has not appeared in a major league game since 2012, batted .244 with 0 home runs and 2 RBI's in 52 plate appearances this Spring with the Phillies. Abreu was a liability defensively and the Phillies likely did not want to limit their bench versatility by keeping Abreu.
