Phillies Recall Team's First World Series Appearance, 100 Seasons Ago
By Paul Kurtz
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies will take a look back at their past when they take on the Boston Red Sox tonight.
The 1915 team was the first Phillies team to win the National League pennant. And tonight, the members of that squad will remembered at Citizens Bank Park.
"We got a few things going on," says Scott Brandreth, director of merchandising for the Phillies. "We're going to do a pre-game tribute on Phanavision -- we've got some nice photos from the club back then. We're gonna have our own 'Woodrow Wilson' throwing out the first pitch from the stands."
Wilson was the first American president to throw out the first ball, when he attended game two of the World Series between the Phillies and Boston Red Sox.
On the field tonight, the Phillies will be wearing replica 1915 hats. And look for the Phanatic to join a barbershop quartet during the 7th-inning stretch -- but don't count on him actually singing.
Brandreth says there is no truth to the rumor that the team will be rolling ticket prices back to the 1915 price: 50 cents. "But it is dollar dog night tonight, so you will get a hot dog for one dollar," he added cheerfully.
