Phillies: Polanco to DL, Schwimer Recalled from AAA
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Phillies officially placed third baseman Placido Polanco on the disabled list after yesterday's game with the Arizona Diamondbacks. To take his place on the roster, righthanded reliever Michael Schwimer is expected to be recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley.
Polanco hasn't played in several days, so this DL stint is retroactive to August 7th, and that means he would be eligible to return to the roster on Monday. Polanco is dealing with a sports hernia.
Schwimer has been dominant at AAA in 2011. The 25-year-old righthander has gone 9-1 out of the Iron Pigs' bullpen this season, with a 1.88 ERA and 10 saves. In 67 innings of work, he has struck out 86 batters.
Earlier this summer, KYW's Matt Leon traveled to Lehigh Valley and caught up with Schwimer to talk about his development.
