Phillies Open Seven Game Road Trip In San Francisco
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – After a disastrous Sunday at Citizens Bank Park which saw them lose to a bad Miami team 14-2 and learn that starter Roy Halladay is dealing with shoulder discomfort, the Phillies are now in San Francisco to open a seven-game road trip with the first of three against the Giants.
They will be without Halladay on the road trip, as the Phillies put him on the 15-day Disabled List with right shoulder inflammation. They recalled left-handed pitcher Joe Savery to replace Halladay on the roster.
Halladay got just seven outs while allowing nine runs on Sunday. His ERA now sits at 8.65. After the game, he revealed that he has felt this discomfort since after his start against the Pirates on April 24th. He will head to Los Angeles to be examined this week.
As for the series opener with the Giants, Cliff Lee will get the start for the Phillies. He is 2-2 on the season with a 3.46 ERA. Last time out, he took the loss in Cleveland, allowing four earned runs in six innings of a 6-0 loss.
Last time Lee pitched in San Francisco, he threw ten shutout innings against the Giants, allowing just seven hits back on April 18th of last season. However, he had to settle for a no-decision in a game the Phillies eventually lost 1-0 in 11 innings. In his career against the Giants, Lee is 4-0 with a miniscule 0.63 ERA.
San Francisco will send left-hander Madison Bumgarner to the mound tonight. He is 3-0 this season in six starts with a 1.55 ERA.
This road trip will also include a four-game series in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
