Phillies Open Long Series With The Mets

By Matt Leon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies will try to build on the momentum of last night's walk-off win over the Rockies tonight as they open a five game series with the Mets at Citizens Bank Park. This series is five games long because the make-up game for an earlier rain-out was tacked on, extending the series to Monday.

That victory improved the Phillies to 23-27 and they are four games out of first in National League East.  The Mets are also four games back, as they bring a 24-28 mark into this one.

David Buchanan will make his second Major League start on the mound. He pitched solid baseball in his first, beating the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing two runs in five innings of work.

The Mets, who come in having won two straight, give the ball to right-hander Zack Wheeler. He is 1-5 this season with a 4.63 ERA. He made two starts against the Phillies as a rookie in 2013, going 0-1 with a 3.18 ERA.

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is swinging a hot bat heading into this series. He knocked in nine runs in the three-game set against Colorado. Not bad when you consider he only started two of the games. He was the hero last night with that walk-off three run home run.

Here is the Phillies line-up for this series opener with New York:

1. Ben Revere                      CF

2. Jimmy Rollins                   SS

3. Chase Utley                      2B

4. Ryan Howard                   1B

5. Marlon Byrd                      RF

6. Domonic Brown                LF

7. Carlos Ruiz                       C

8. Cesar Hernandez            3B

9. David Buchanan             P
