Phillies Officially Sign 36 Year-Old Nieves
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies made it official today; they've signed catcher Will Nieves to a one-year contract.
Nieves, 36 years-old, appeared in 71 games last season for the Arizona Diamondbacks and batted .297 with one home run and 22 RBI.
In 10 MLB seasons, Nieves has a .242 average with a .597 OPS.
Also, the Phillies have signed right-hander Jeff Manship to a minor league deal with an invitation to major league spring training. A 2007 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Manship appeared in 11 games last season for the Colorado Rockies and went 0-5 with a 7.04 ERA.
