Phillies Look For Sweep Of Mets
By Matt Leon
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Phillies used late inning dramatics last night to steal a 3-2 win in New York. Phillies got a two-out, two-run home run from Ryan Howard in the 9th inning to erase a 2-1 deficit.
So tonight the Phillies will go for a sweep of the Mets behind rookie right-hander Tyler Cloyd. Cloyd was scheduled to start Tuesday's game, but that was rained out so he gets pushed back to tonight. Cloyd is 1-1 on the season and his one loss came at the hands of the Mets in his Major League debut on August 29th.
New York will start their own rookie right-hander in Jeremy Hefner. He is 2-6 here in 2012 with a 4.99 ERA. One of his two wins came against the Phillies. He allowed three runs in six innings of a 6-3 victory back on May 29th.
This is the final meeting between these two teams this season. The Mets have won 10 of the first 17 match-ups.
KYW's Matt Leon spoke with David Murphy of the Philadelphia Daily News about this match-up and whether the Phils have any real hope of getting that second wildcard berth.
