Phillies GM Receives 'Homegrown Hero' Award
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro, Junior has another award for his trophy case; this one, from the Anti-Defamation League.
Born of a Russian Jewish mother and a Mexican-Cuban Catholic father, Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Junior says diversity has always been at the core of his life.
Amaro was given the inaugural Homegrown Hero award from the Anti-Defamation League last week at the Cira Center. Aside from his parents, Amaro credits his predecessor:
"I kind of come from the school of Pat Gillick; where you try to get opinions and information from all different types of people. And I think that's what builds organizations. I think that's what builds success."
Amaro joked that the award was especially meaningful, because he was selected to receive it *before* he'd acquired Cliff Lee.
