Phillies Fans Recall Scenes From Ballpark Following Bin Laden's Death

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Many people remember where they were and what they were doing when news of Osama Bin Laden's death broke one year ago. For 45,000 Phillies fans, the story is the same.
"Started to the left of us, somebody started chanting USA." David says he'll never forget that day in section 113 at Citizens Bank Park. "And it just sort of ... it just swept through the crowd and we were all still on our phones."
The news spread virally.
"I got a text message from family and friends saying Bin Laden's been killed. And then we all started doing the chant USA, USA. It was great."
After that, fans say the game was secondary.
"Most faces were not looking at the game, they were looking down at their phones trying to see whether or not this was true and then started to join in on the chant."
The news seemed to have a unifying effect.
"It wasn't about baseball. It wasn't about winning or losing. It was just about being an American at that time, and who cared about the game?"
"And I don't really know if anybody in the game knew what was going on until afterwards and then they found out."
A year later, none of the fans could recall who won the game. For the record, it was a 2-1 loss to the Mets in 14 innings. But the fans will never forget what happened and where they were May 1st, 2011.
