Philadelphia Phillies clinch bye in MLB playoffs with win over Cubs, Brewers loss

The Philadelphia Phillies clinched a bye in the MLB playoffs with a win over the Chicago Cubs and a Milwaukee Brewers loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday night.

The Phillies now have home-field advantage in the National League Division Series and have earned at least the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

The Phillies defeated the Cubs, 9-6, at Citizens Bank Park as Trea Turner and Nick Castellanos each hit home runs. The Brewers lost to the Pirates, 2-1, and will now begin the playoffs in the wild card round.

If the playoffs started today, the Phillies would play the winner of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who knocked off the Phillies in the playoffs last season, or the Brewers in the NLDS.

Game 1 of the NLDS at Citizens Bank Park will be on Saturday, Oct. 5. The start time of the game is unclear as of Wednesday night.

The Phillies recently opened a playoff ticket lottery to give fans a chance to secure tickets for the postseason.

The Phillies locked up the NL East for the first time in 13 years on Monday night after beating Chicago.
