Phillies: Charlie Manuel Brings His Radio Show Back to Ponzio's Diner
CHERRY HILL, N.J. (CBS) - Phillies fans crowded into Ponzio's Diner in Cherry Hill today for another edition of the Charlie Manuel radio show.
Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel loves to talk hitting. On his lunchtime show today on Sportsradio 610 WIP, he talked at length about the value of recognizing a pitch by the spin of the ball -- and said he's happy to talk about hitting stances and mechanics with his players.
But he also knows when not to talk to some hitters.
"If I don't have to talk mechanics to you it's better, because the more you'd get confused," Manuel says. "When you go up to the plate and you're standing there, 'Where's my hands? Where's my feet? Where's this? Where's that?,' you're not going to hit. Come on back and sit down with me because you're not going to hit."
Manuel said Ryan Howard seemed okay after taking a pitch off his shin, and he said third baseman Placido Polanco and several Phils starters deserve to be All-Stars this season.
