Phillies' "Block Party" Will Precede NLCS Game 1 At Ballpark

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The folks who run Citizens Bank Park are preparing for a neighborhood block party on Saturday outside the ballpark.

The Phillies are hosting a pre-game block party starting at 5 PM Saturday, before the main event.

Spokesman Sam Arnone says it will take place outside the third-base gate:

"There's going to be a rock wall, there's going to be a speed pitch where kids can throw and see how hard they throw, as well as an inflatable, all-sports-base blow-up thing (laughs)."

She says pre-game block parties like this one help raise the energy level inside the ballpark for the Phillies:

"They do! They definitely helped a lot for the last series against the Reds, so we hope that they bring the same energy to this series against the Giants."

She says that in addition to the games, there is also going to be food, a band, and a charity fundraiser:

"There's going to be an auction for a Roy Halladay ball and a Jimmy Rollins bat.  That all benefits Phillies' charities."

Tickets are not necessary for the block party, but Arnone warns that it'll be pretty busy at the ballpark on Saturday.  So if you want to come down, she recommends taking public transportation.
