Phillies' Ballpark Getting a Huge, H-U-G-E Video Screen
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The home of the Phillies is going high-def. It's part of a $10-million upgrade that includes new HD televisions throughout Citizens Bank Park.
Your flat-panel screen at home has nothing -- really, nothing -- on the new display at Citizens Bank Park. It is a 7,300-square-foot behemoth, according to Phillies' director of broadcasting and video services, Mark DiNardo.
"We're probably one of the top 10 LED displays in the world in terms of sheer square footage," says DiNardo.
He says it's so big, in fact, that it would take nearly 1,400, 42-inch screens to equal its size.
"There's no doubt you're going to be able to see this display from I-95. You may even be able to see it as you're crossing the Walt Whitman Bridge," DiNardo told KYW Newsradio.
It replaces the comparatively puny screen under the "Phillies" sign out in left field. The old one has retired to warmer pastures, at the team's spring training facility in Clearwater, Fla.
