Phillies' Ballpark Chef Describes Preparations For Playoff Crowds
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The chefs at Citizens Bank Park have been preparing all week for Saturday's sold-out and potentially hungry crowd. But what does it take to feed the fans?
Diamond Club and concession stand chef Rich Freedman says the post-season menu at Citizens Bank Park is heating up:
"Hot grilled cheese, hot grilled cheese with ham, something we're introducing this year is a grilled reuben sandwich, corned beef sandwich, delicious really warm."
Freedman says they add new, hot foods to the menu for October baseball. And of course they also have sweet treats:
(Freedman:) "We make out own brownies from scratch. We melt down our chocolate."
(Kuznits:) "You're not messing around."
(Freedman:) "No, we're not -- and it's a lot of work, but it's great!"
(Kuznits:) "So when people come here, they're coming here for dinner. They're hanging out, they're gonna be here for a while, so they need to eat."
(Freedman:) "Right. And most people come early, especially in the playoffs. And once the game starts, you don't want to miss any of the action. So people get some nice warm stuff to bring to their seats and then they're glued to the game."
Freedman says there's a lot of prep work that goes into feeding the masses:
"To get ready for the playoff games -- the first game is on Saturday -- we started on Monday."
